Santa Clarita Weekend Crime Round-Up: Felony Arrests On The Rise

About 45 percent of the arrests reported in Santa Clarita over the weekend were on felony charges, officials said.

Between Friday, Feb. 21 and Sunday, Feb. 23, deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and officers with the California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office made 35 arrests in the Santa Clarita Valley, according to weekend arrest records.

In total, 16 people were arrested on felony charges, which ranged from kidnapping and illegal possession of ammunition to possession of narcotics or deadly weapons by prisoners.

Despite the President’s Day weekend having an extra day included in the weekend arrest records, there were 12 reported felony arrests, as opposed to this weekend’s 16 felony arrests.

Of this weekend’s 35 total arrests, 17 were related to drugs and alcohol, with seven reported instances of DUI, six arrests for possession of a controlled substance and five reported incidents of being under the influence or drunk in public.

The longer President’s Day weekend saw more overall arrests at a total of 41, with 70 percent of those being drug- and alcohol-related. This weekend’s drug- and alcohol-related arrests represented 49 percent of 35 total arrests.

A total of 16 of the arrests made were for individuals who reported having home addresses outside of the Santa Clarita Valley, while seven were reportedly homeless, according to weekend arrest records.

  1. Homeless? No, these bum are hiding under the name. Now when will the homeless attract You? Don’t be confused by the weirdos continuing to do nothing to get this problem under control. Separate the mentally ill from the felons. Build prisons and get back to executing execution laws. Burn Baby Burn.

    • You are right!I see homeless coming down in the morning and at night in my neighborhood sleeping up in the hills also litter on the streets! It sure has changed in the last three years!Speeders driving in residential area driving 40 to 50 miles an hour even in school zones! Times have changed !
