Saugus Burglary Suspect Arrested With Help Of Surveillance Video

A Saugus burglary suspect was arrested Tuesday after deputies received help from residents who submitted surveillance videos.

On Friday, March 13, deputies received reports of a residential burglary in a Saugus neighborhood off of Seco Canyon Road.

“Deputies were at the home within minutes, but the suspect had fled the scene,” wrote Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, in an official statement Wednesday.

Detectives were able to identify the suspect as 30-year-old Steven Gonzales through surveillance videos submitted by residents and witness statements, according to Miller.

“Deputies and detectives conducted surveillance at several locations and enlisted the assistance of LASD’s Burglary-Robbery Task Force (BRTF), a specialized team within the department’s Major Crimes Bureau,” she wrote.

On Tuesday, March 31, Gonzales was located and arrested by BRTF detectives in Panorama City. Gonzalez is reportedly a previously convicted felon with a criminal history of illegal firearms and narcotics offenses, according to Miller.

“Gonzales was booked into the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail on felony charges of residential burglary and assault,” Miller wrote.

Gonzales is currently being held on $50,000 bail and has a scheduled court appearance on Thursday at the San Fernando North Valley Superior Courthouse.

“Lt. Ignacio Somoano, of Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, reminds residents that anyone who captures video of suspicious activity could help detectives solve crimes,” Miller wrote.

Video surveillance can be submitted to Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station via email at SantaClaritaMedia@lasd.org.

“Somoano asks that residents include the street, block number, date and approximate time in the email accompanying the video,” Miller wrote.

  1. I love reading articles like this . You don’t always need a gun and a badge to protect your neighborhood.

  2. Thanks LASD!! Keep up the great work!! Felon GONZALES (Guns & drugs) was arrested in lovely Panorama City (Van Nuys)! Were any of his crew/buddies/homies also arrested?!

  3. You should have capitalized PANORAMA as well since it’s a Spanish word and you feel there need to condemn anything that doesn’t fit your “views” of others.

    • Actually it is not a Spanish word. In the late 18th century: it comes from the English word pan- ‘all’ + the Greek word horama- ‘view’= panorama.

  4. Jesus C.: Not my views—The facts/truth of reality!! Didn’t know Panorama was Spanish!? I thought it meant a city that use to have beautiful Panoramic views! Now another city of degradation!
