A man from South Gate was arrested in Santa Clarita for possession of a controlled substance while armed with a loaded firearm after being found with methamphetamine and a gun.

On Wednesday night, deputies saw a vehicle with a felony warrant listed to the registered owner while patrolling the 16500 block of Soledad Canyon Road in Santa Clarita, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“As deputies approached the vehicle, they saw drug paraphernalia within reach of the male driver,” Arriaga said. “Deputies detained the driver pending further investigation.”

In a search of the car, deputies found a gun which was not secured properly, a magazine with ammunition, and a small bag of methamphetamine, Arriaga said.

Enrique Garcia, 40, was arrested on felony charges for possession of narcotics with a firearm, possession of a large capacity magazine, and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to Arriaga.

Garcia was transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station with bail set at $0.

He was released from custody with a citation Thursday morning.
