Stake-Wielding Suspect Arrested After Canyon Country Assault

A man was taken into custody Monday afternoon after he allegedly lunged at a person with a metal stake during a Canyon Country assault.

At around 4 p.m. Monday, deputies responded to the 19000 block of Nearbrook Street in Canyon Country regarding a disturbance call, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“Upon arrival, deputies detained a male adult matching the disturbing party description listed in the call,” Arriaga said.

While deputies were speaking with the individual detained, deputies observed signs and symptoms similar to someone under the influence of narcotics, according to Arriaga.

“Deputies conducted a standard field sobriety test and determined the male was under the influence of a controlled substance,” Arriaga said.

As deputies continued their investigation, they learned that an individual had observed the suspect walking on Nearbrook Street, in front of a residence, according to Arriaga.

During that time, the suspect was heard yelling obscenities towards a resident of the home, according to Sheriff’s officials.

“The victim approached the suspect to check on his welfare, to which the suspect then removed a metal stake from his waistband and lunged towards the victim’s torso several times,” Arriaga said.

The victim was able to grab the suspect’s wrist and remove the stake away from his grip, according to Arriaga.

The suspect, 36-year-old Gabriel Garcia of Canyon Country, was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, a felony, and for being under the influence of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, Arriaga added.

Garcia was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s jail with bail set at $0, according to arrest records.

  1. Gotta love no bail. Right back out on the street to continue this behavior. Just like Gavin, Gascon, and the Progressive orthodoxy like it. A life without consequences for the perp, only disruption to those trying to live peacefully.

  2. U
    Mean he got to go?
No bail? He is not in jail?
    What is going on?

  3. GABRIEL GARCIA at it again! Does it hang out with You Tube cook Bird Gang Gang?! It will be back on the streets by morning—Thanks Gas-con, Newsom, Garrshity and condoning deceitful Liberals!

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
