Stevenson Ranch Burglary Suspect Arrested Near Bakersfield One Month After Crime

A Stevenson Ranch burglary suspect was arrested near Bakersfield Thursday after deputies served a search warrant about a month after the alleged crime, officials said.

On Sept. 18, deputies received reports of a residential burglary in Stevenson Ranch, said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“The suspect probably thought when he traveled from the Bakersfield area … to commit a residential burglary in Stevenson Ranch, that we would never find him,” Miller said.

Between video surveillance captured from homeowners’ cameras and extensive detective work, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s detectives were able to identify the suspect and track him down to the Bakersfield area, according to Sheriff’s officials.

On Thursday morning, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s detectives, accompanied by Crime Impact Team deputies, drove about 80 miles to serve a search warrant at the suspect’s house in Oildale near Bakersfield, Miller said.

“The suspect was home, and so was a female adult who had a warrant out for her arrest,” Miller said.

Detectives found the evidence needed to link the suspect to the Stevenson Ranch burglary, according to officials.

“We also found narcotics and four unlawfully possessed firearms,” Miller said.

Michael Mahoney, 38, a convicted felon, was arrested and charged with multiple felonies, according to officials.

Mahoney was transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail with bail set at $50,000, according to arrest records.

“We will not tolerate crooks coming from out of town to SCV for the purpose of victimizing our residents,” Miller said.

  1. Why only a 50,000 bail He probably has $5000 in drug money to bail out and be free again to commit more crimes.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
