Stolen Vehicle Suspect Arrested After Castaic Containment Lifted

A stolen vehicle suspect was arrested Sunday after deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station set up a containment in Castaic.

Christopher Goertemiller, 22, was arrested on felony charges of grand theft auto on Sunday night. He was also a suspect of identity theft, according to Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“That suspect is one that deputies have been trying to locate for quite some time,” Miller said.

Around 1 p.m., deputies responded to reports of a suspect wanted for vehicle theft who was running from law enforcement on Wakefield Road in Castaic, according to officials.

A containment was set up near Hasley Canyon Road between Cambridge Avenue and Wakefield Road to search for the suspect, with one helicopter from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Aero Bureau deployed to assist with the search.

The containment was lifted around 2:15 p.m. after deputies were unable to locate the suspect, according to officials.

Later that night, deputies were able to locate Goertemiller, who Miller confirmed was the suspect that law enforcement had been searching for previously.

“He resisted when they tried to arrest him, but deputies were able to take him into custody,” added Miller.

Goertemiller was transported and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, where bail was set at $25,250.

  1. My name is Nicholas Goertemiller brother and witness of the arrest of car thief suspect in castaic California. Approximately 5:30 pm on 02/24/19 there was a small foot pursuit from the jack in the box on commerce center drive to an industrial building across the road where the suspect was surrounded by 12 cars and approximately 18 sheriff officers. Suspect Christopher Goertemiller age 22 was surrounded and was surrendering with his hands up and legs spread. He did not resist or fight back. An officer by the name of ogle badge 9990 gave him a right hook to the side of his head, once the suspect was on the ground the officer then used extreme force for no apparent reason. Blows to the chest and ribs. Excessive force while cuffing the suspect. The suspect was unarmed and was peacefully surrendering. The Santa Clarita sheriffs are giving false reports stating the suspect injured an officer when the officer was never injured. The sheriff department has footage of the incident which proves the suspect never harmed the officer and was giving up peacefully when he experienced the police brutality
