Suspect Armed With Firearm Arrested For Narcotics After Traffic Stop In Santa Clarita

A Panorama City man was arrested early Wednesday morning during a traffic stop for the possession of a firearm and additional narcotics charges, officials said.

Near the intersection of Sand Canyon Road and Soledad Canyon Road around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, patrol deputies conducted a traffic stop to warn and/or cite a driver for a vehicle code violation, said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station in a social media post.

Santa Clarita deputies noticed the strong smell of marijuana upon making contact with the adult male driver, which was then determined to be emitting from open containers within the vehicle, according to Miller.

While a narcotics field investigation was initiated, a handgun and large-capacity magazine was discovered on the backseat of the vehicle, according to Sheriff’s officials.

The suspect admitted no reasoning as to why he drove to Santa Clarita at that hour and was arrested on felony weapon charges and additional narcotics charges, according to Miller.

“It is our hope that we possibly prevented someone from being victimized,” said Miller.

The suspect has been identified as 24-year-old, Damon Wiggins, from Panorama City.

No bail amount has been announced, according to arrest records.
