A suspect arrested on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after a deputy-involved fight Saturday is now facing additional charges after allegedly falsely identifying himself to deputies, officials said.
Ryan Coffey, the suspect’s real name, was originally charged with felony assaulting a peace officer and possession of narcotics, and misdemeanor possession of narcotic paraphernalia.
On Saturday around 5:30 p.m., a deputy was conducting a patrol check of the Walmart shopping center on the 25400 block of The Old Road in Stevenson Ranch when he saw a vehicle with a vehicle code violation, said Shirley Miller, spokesperson with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
The vehicle was parked behind the business in a secluded location, according to Sheriff’s officials.
When the deputy exited his patrol vehicle to approach, Coffey reportedly exited the vehicle and immediately started to disassociate himself from the vehicle, allegedly saying he was not associated with anything illegal in the car, Miller said.

However, when Coffey was originally arrested, he allegedly told deputies that his name was Garrett Coffey, said Lt. Ignacio Somoano with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s Detective Bureau.
“After a fingerprint check was conducted, it was verified that his true name was Ryan E. Coffey,” Somoano said. “We confirmed that Ryan had used a relative’s name, and Garrett Coffey, a true person, was not involved.”
Ryan Coffey is now facing an additional felony charge of false personation of another, Somoano said.
