A suspect with an outstanding $40,000 warrant was arrested Wednesday morning after reportedly fleeing from deputies in Canyon Country, officials said.

On Wednesday at about 1:30 a.m., deputies were patrolling in Canyon Country when they observed a “suspicious vehicle” in a strip mall parking lot on the 27200 block of Whites Canyon Road, said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“When deputies attempted to make contact with a passenger, the passenger began acting suspiciously and starting running in the direction of a nearby gas station,” Miller said.

A short foot pursuit was initiated, according to Miller.

“After the suspect attempted to go over a high brick wall but was unsuccessful, deputies were able to take the suspect into custody,” Miller said.

The suspect, Giovannie Guevara, 22, of Canyon Country, was determined to have a $40,000 warrant out for his arrest, according to Sheriff’s officials.

Guevara was also arrested on an additional misdemeanor charge for allegedly resisting an officer, according to Miller.

He is being held at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on $41,000 bail.
