Suspects From Outside Santa Clarita Dominate Weekend Arrest Records

A majority of alcohol and drug-related crimes, one robbery and an attempted burglary made up the Santa Clarita weekend arrests over the three-day weekend, with more than 50 percent of crimes being committed by suspects with home addresses outside the Santa Clarita Valley.

Twenty one arrests were reported in Santa Clarita over the three-day Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. weekend with 57 percent of crimes being committed by suspects living outside of the Santa Clarita area.

Between Friday, Jan. 14 through Monday, Jan. 17, deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall Area Office made 21 total arrests during  the three day weekend, a minor increase from last weekend’s 19, according to booking logs.

Seven of the reported 21 bookings came as a result of DUI crimes with prior convictions, in which each suspect was booked in lieu of $5,000 bail, according to arrest records.

Two additional bookings were listed as DUI crimes with a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) of 0.08% – the lowest alcohol content that is considered illegal in the state of California – and the suspects were booked and released the same day as their arrest without being required to pay bail.

“It is illegal for any person to operate a vehicle with a BAC of 0.08% or higher, if the person is 21-years-old or older,” read a reminder from the California DMV. “BAC of 0.01% or higher at any age, if the person is on a DUI probation.”

Two domestic-related arrests were made over the weekend with two incidents involving battery against a former spouse, in which both suspects were booked in lieu of $20,000, according to law enforcement records.

One of the domestic-related arrests involved a man whose charges had been dropped as a result of penal code 849.5, in which the arrest is no longer deemed an arrest, but a detention because the possible victim had not filed charges, according to the code.

Five possession-related charges had been made during the weekend including three controlled substance possession arrests and one possession of tear gas by a felon in which all suspects had been booked and released without being required to pay bail, according to arrest records.

A notable arrest included a male robbery suspect with a home address in Panorama City who was arrested and held in lieu of $126,000 on Friday and had not yet been released as of Tuesday morning.

One man was arrested and charged with attempted burglary, a felony, on Monday and held in lieu of $50,000 bail without being released as of Tuesday morning, according to law enforcement records.

On the same day, a man who allegedly committed assault with a deadly weapon by use of great bodily force was released back into the public on a citation, according to arrest logs.

The final arrests included a man charged with misdemeanor battery with a bail set in lieu of $20,000 who had been released on bond the same day as his arrest and a woman from Pacoima who was cited Monday for participating in unlawful assembly.

Nine of the 21 crimes were committed by those currently residing in the Santa Clarita Valley, while 12 were committed by those with home addresses in Ventura, Hespera, Sylmar, Panorama City, Santa Ana, Newbury Park, Lake Elizabeth, Simi Valley, Pacoima, Stockton, Van Nuys or Humble in Texas.

  1. So sad to see what is happening in California with all this crime! Does anyone doubt this is in relation to our approach to enforcing our laws or more accurately not enforcing and respecting our laws. Then on top of all of this, the disrespect shown to our police, when the majority are respectable men and women. Shame on us. If we keep voting this way in our elections, it’s only going to get worse. The thought crosses my mind daily that it might be better to move out of the state because we are going downhill fast. Focusing on things that don’t matter (like “Global Warming”) and ignoring the crime in front of our faces, trash all over the place and we think we can control the weather! What a joke our so-called “leaders” have become.

  2. Jimmy, truthful/accurate/factual words well spoken! Disgusting Liberals continue to ruin our cities from Seattle to LA, Chicago, Baltimore,, NY, Philadelphia, Kenosha, Michigan, etc.!!
