Teen Arrested For Doing ‘Doughnuts’ In Ford Mustang In Canyon Country

A man was arrested Tuesday after reportedly doing “doughnuts” in a Ford Mustang in a Canyon Country neighborhood, officials said.

Deputies were monitoring for unsafe driving after community members alerted the traffic office of possible illegal speed contests in Canyon Country, said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Around 9 p.m. on Tuesday, a deputy in the area of Centre Pointe Parkway and Spirit Court heard the sound of a revving engine and screeching of tires, according to officials.

“When the deputy investigated the source of the sound, he observed a vehicle with smoke coming from the tire ‘doing ‘doughnuts’ in the cul-de-sac,” Miller said.

The driver reportedly told the deputy “he just wanted to see what the car could do.”

Samuel Estrada-Hernandez, 18, from Sylmar, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of exhibition of speed, and also had his Ford Mustang towed and impounded for 30 days, Miller added.

Estrada-Hernandez was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail.

Teen Arrested For Doing ‘Doughnuts’ In Ford Mustang In Canyon Country

  1. Maybe the police can get the person who does the donuts on Sloan Cyn and Quail Valley Rd. Along with that get drivers going 70-75 mph before they kill someone.

  2. I can’t believe they actually arrested someone for doing donuts… I find that to be ridiculous… He’s just a kid and having a little fun it wasn’t hurting anyone… And they impounded the car for 30 days that’s Insane that’s going to cost a fortune to get out… I feel sorry for the guy. I really do think the punishment was quite excessive… I don’t quite understand why somebody from Sylmar was up here in canyon country tearing up our streets.

    • He was a minority ? i can beleieve anything in the goid ole boi USOfA

      • More like he was using an internal combustion engine we know how uncool those are now. If was a Tesla he would be having selfies with the cops in hopes of catching Elon Musks eye….

        • Of course it was a combustion engine!! I did this 40 years ago as a kid. Back when driving was an art! A new car meant “ let’s see how fast she’ll go” taking road trips, “ peeling rubber”. Just part of growing up! …. electric? No way!

    • No worse than putting someone in jail for keeping their business open and not apologizing for it.

      • You got to be an advocate of the Draconian approach. A 30 day impound amounts to a $6,000.00 + fine imposed by the Sheriff, Not a judgement that could be defended ( see the Constitution ) in court in front of a Judge. Is the Constitution of the United States only a “ Suggestion”?
        I call “ Shenanigans“.

    • In cul-de-sac are you retarded or 5?

    • Yes I agree, this is absolutely ridiculous! There are people out there who need to be in jail such as child molesters, burglars and people who commit rapes.
It’s bad enough the young man got arrested, but to impound his Mustang!! WTF Is this even legal to do? That will cost a fortune at 30 days……poor young man. A cop using his badge beyond the call of duty. I sure hope this young man will win this case when it is over. Best of luck to him.

    • Not a kid he was 18, stop with the infantilization of adults. He is an adult and those are adult consequences. So at what point should he be treated as an adult? They aren’t going to give him the death penalty, relax. He drove from Sylmar to Santa Clarita to drive recklessly. Do you think once he left that parking lot he was driving safe and sane?

    • He is an idiot. As a Mexican American they should blame the parents idk why they love buying their kids cars they can’t even handle. It’s such a “Paisa” thing to do honestly. Now his parents can take his car out for being stupid.

  3. Was the kids Mustang white with green led lighting on the interior and wheelwells? If so, he might be the kid who did the same thing in my neighborhood.

  4. Wish the cops where I live could do something about the 5 or so people tearing up the roads by doing donuts, but alas cops rarely go where I live.

  5. He was a minority ? i can beleieve anything in the goid ole boi USOfA

    • You are ridiculous. Hispanics are not minorities here. Chances are the sheriffs or highway patrol were Hispanic as well. Do you actually think there should be no consequences or only consequences for White 18 year olds. I sure hope you don’t think everything but pot shops and liquor stores should remain closed. I imagine though you are because you probably think COVID -19 is racist, because that makes about as much sense as your post.

    • Really, u think he was busted because he was a minority?!!

  6. Good ole boy USofA

  7. That is a little harsh. Worst I got was a ticket for doing doughnuts. Never got arrested anyway. Even when the speed limit was 55 and I was going 105 I didn’t go to jail. I’m 51 now and yeah I’d do it again if I had a car that would do them. Maybe I’ll go buy one and do some doughnuts right in front of the police station.

  8. First thing I want to add here.
Yes, I am an adult. I never smoke the tires on my truck.
But when I leave my driveway, which is at the 12 o’clock position of my cul-de-sac, on my highly modified Harley.. I launch like a rocket smoking the tire through first and second gear. What a adrenaline rush!!
Don’t knock it until you try it.
But here’s my point. This whole social distancing and self quarantine society we’re all going through does require us to want to blow off so steam. Especially with the warmer weather moving in. I do feel like the punishment he received is a bit excessive.
Was he wearing a mask? We’re people walking around the area when his foot slipped off of the clutch?
Seriously though at 18, and the charges he received… His insurance premium just exceeded the monthly payment of a new car. That’s 1 hell of an expensive lesson.
The point I’m trying to make is this if the street is clear of foot traffic, do it. But remember how much tires cost and what can happen when you get caught. Me personally, I’ve had more close calls with people distracted by their cell phones. Drivers distracted by cell phones are just as bad as drunk drivers.

    • And this is how people plow into houses or kill themself because of Recklessness.

      • Mostly drunk driving and distracted driving but sure…

      • There are no houses. Its the Industrial park . Practically empty on the weekends

        • Let’s be realistic.. Any type one of the tickets he received would have been punishment enough. His insurance premium will go up so high until he’s 25. He can pretty much kiss the Mustang goodbye. All I’m saying is that 90% of male driver’s have enjoyed a few burnouts, and some of us still do!
The penalty he was handed is absurd, a ticket or even a strong verbal warning would make anyone think twice before doing it again. Police officers used to give us warnings back in the day.

  9. The punishment is well beyond what is fair , yea he is a kid having fun , it is fun , there is actually a sport competition doing it. Professional race drivers do it , it does not real harm to the roadway , the potential to cause damage exists , but a ticket and tow bill would teach the same as the punishment given. Education is key , it is cops like that that angers youth to do even more foolish antics to provoke cops , if cops were not so harsh things would not escalate to worse things

  10. Give the kid a $200 dollar ticket. Say, ” Knock it off!! Get outta here!” Lol

  11. Ok BOOMER…

  12. Good he got arrested look what be did on the pavement on property that he does not own the kid should not get the mustang at all everybody knows when he gets the mustang he is going to do the hole thing over again

    • Good Lord I think I lost a few of my favorite brain cells reading this mess.

    • What did he do on Private property? Nothing, he was on the street!
“Everybody knows “ is such an uninformed, condescending, judgement based on your perception of reality and truth, no matter how bigoted or uninformed you are at your judgement always core. Our Jean pool needs more chlorine.

    • Bobby, He did not cause all those tire marks. If he did there would be zero tires left. This area and the Valencia industrial center has been used for this for DECADES. Our law enforcement started cracking down on it after Paul Walker was killed and the rise of street racing from Hollywood tv shows & movies. Burn outs and smoking tires is nothing new . Listen to a beach boy song . He should have been cited and fined. The punishment was a bit extreme but then again he could have been a dick to the deputy or he is a Chevy guy lol

  13. Since none of us were there, all our opinions may be skewed depending on circumstance.

What if the kid was being arrogant and uncooperative with the officer, as well as being overly aggressive with the vehicle/revs trying to show off?

We live 20min away from multiple areas of wide open space where you could probably get away with much worse than donuts.

However, if the kid really was just doing his first attempts of donuts ever in an area he felt confortable with and just so happens an officer was nearby… that sucks and I agree the repercussions imposed by the officer are too drastic.

If he was driving alone and nobody was around he CANNOT be charged with “Exhibition of Speed”.

According to California Vehicle Code 23109(c), it is illegal for you to accelerate or drive at a rate of speed that is dangerous and unsafe in order to show off or make an impression on someone else.

Doing donuts alone in an empty area does not meet the criteria of the above.

But w.e, im just some guy.

  14. The very very sad part is the poor boy was driving a mustang

  15. This is ridiculous. Punishment for this young man is beyond cruel and unfair. What right does a cop have to impound his Mustang for 30 days?!! Perhaps the driver will be sitting in jail for 30 days?
Impound fees will be off the chart. This whole thing is wrong and unacceptable. I hope this young man wins this case in the end. Power and control is crap, thought cops were here to serve and protect….LMFAO

  16. He is lucky ,he could be shot 😉
Seriously, arrested kid for doughnuts and repo his car for 30 sounds ridiculous .

  17. Alot harder to do donuts on a bicycle.

  18. Justice is being served to this punk. He could’ve killed someone or many people. Total disregard to peoples lives and property. People move to culdesac’s because they’re quiet with less traffic. Alot of people who move to culdesac’s have kids that would be playing outside if the weather was nice. If he wanted to do donuts why didnt he go to a track for open practice or go to an open event where they actually host burnout/donut events? I cant believe all the people defending his actions of carelessness, recklessness, stupidity, and selfishness. Facts are you do the crime you do the time. I love it. It’s part of the test everyone takes to get their drivers license. That’s why we have rules and regulations in the good old U,S of A. I love it. If you dont LEAVE!

    • Sampson , Who lives in industrial parks? That’s where this is at . Were defending it probably due to must of us have done the same thing. This sort of thing has been happening dating back to our grandparent you must have never heard a beach boy song .

  19. California releases rapist, child abusers, God knows what other criminals were doing time for. So they arrest a young kid for doing burn outs in a culdasac, I hope the kid don’t get the virus. This old man was 18 once and did the Same stuff in New Jersey but didn’t get put in jail or have my 57 Ford impounded.

  20. Kids aren’t allowed to have fun anymore that’s why where I grew up in md there’s drugs pregnant middles schoolers and more ods than most while cops are selling drugs and getting away with murder don’t like speeders get outta the way or at least out of the fast lane two if there’s no one around were not endangering anyone me speeding is better than crushing someone’s skull simply because I’m a sadist and adrenaline junkie

  21. Land of the free…home of the brave.

  22. Let’s be realistic..

  23. That’s a insane overuse of justice!! Unless the industrial culdesac was full of onlookers and other things we don’t know about. because the facts from these “journalists” aren’t included to us! Why don’t the cops triage their efforts on more important things like burglary, car theft, cell phone drivers, reckless driving in neighborhoods, etc.!!

  24. After 48 comments, all missing the point, here’s the deal-
    Mustangs do carrots, not donuts.

  25. To all the Chevy lovers please tell me why Mustang sales beat Camaro sales . Also please enlightening all the readers on how many times Chevy has won Le Mans ? ZERO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
