At around 11:30 p.m. Friday, officials with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station contacted officials with the Los Angeles County Fire Department regarding a broken hydrant at the corner of McBean Parkway and Valencia Boulevard.

“We got reports of a traffic collision with a hydrant involved,” said Supervisor Melinda Choi of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

A teenage boy had allegedly crashed into the hydrant in an SUV while under the influence, and attempted to flee from the scene by driving into a condominium complex nearby, according to officials.

However, the teenager was spotted by two volunteers with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, and station deputies were able to detain him, according to Sheriff’s officials.

The crash resulted in significant flooding in the area, prompting officials to temporarily shut down McBean Pkwy as they worked to stop the flow of water from the broken hydrant.

Officials with the Los Angeles County Fire Department were on scene until 12:02 a.m., according to Choi.

  1. I think that the Sheriffs should start backwards and follow the trail to find out HOW this kid got the alcohol. Was it a friend or his parents or did someone buy it for him. Someone’s got to pay the price of this kids behavior!

  2. CHARMING TEEN?
    1. If he is a MINOR why was he driving without a RESPONSIBILE ADULT?
    2. WHERE WERE HIS PARENTS
    3. WHY was he driving under the influence?! It couldve been Alcohol OR DRUGS
    4. He Destroyed CITY PROPERTY busting a FIRE HYDRANT. That teen needs to be held ACCOUNTABLE. What if he went head on with another car injuring a family, or worse killing a pedestrian?
The WRITER needs to re-evaluate on the way they choose to describe this TEEN. CHARMING is not the word. How about IRRESPONSIBLE, or DRUNK TEEN? How about making that TEEN spend 30 days in jail? Community service of 100 hours at the coroner’s office to see what victims of drivers under the influence have done when they seriously hurt others. Stop putting blame on others. That kid KNOWS between right and wrong. It’s time society makes these “teens” responsible for their actions. I’m sure the parents have insurance and they will cover the property damage. Wheres the lesson there?

  3. Ever hear of sarcasm? Thought so.

  4. He hits a hydrant amd is taken into custody …yet the dui driver who jumped the median and hit another car injuring them was only given a citation and was cited out after his hospital trip but not taken into custody ????????Ummm something fishy there

  5. Awesome job by v.o.ps always doing a great job and guided deputies to that scene and not for the 1st time, credit where it’s dues
