Three Stolen Vehicle Suspects In Custody On Multiple Felonies, Meth Recovered

Three stolen vehicle suspects were taken into custody Wednesday afternoon in Newhall and charged with multiple felonies, officials said.

On Wednesday around 3 p.m., deputies were alerted to a stolen Chevrolet Silverado truck driving around within the area of Railroad Avenue and Drayton Street in Newhall, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“Deputies began to canvas the area and spotted a vehicle matching the description
driving southbound on Newhall Avenue, approaching 14th street in Newhall,” Arriaga said.

The vehicle pulled into a Shell Gas Station on the corner of Lyons and Newhall Avenues, according to Sheriff’s officials.

“Deputies confirmed the vehicle observed was the stolen vehicle,” Arriaga said.

Deputies detained all occupants and conducted an investigation, according to Arriaga.

“During their investigation, deputies learned none of the occupants of the vehicle were the vehicle’s owner or registered to the vehicle,” Arriaga added.

Deputies arrested Carlos Ramirez, 18, Mario Medina, 35 and Mario Maldonado, 30, all from Los Angeles, for taking a vehicle without owner’s consent as well as conspiracy to commit a crime, both felonies, Arriaga added.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies also recovered a small bag containing methamphetamine, according to officials.

Medina, the driver, was additionally charged for being in possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, Arriaga added.

A dog was also in the vehicle with the suspects and was taken by Animal Control, according to Arriaga.

All three suspects were arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s jail with Ramirez’s bail set at $50,000, Medina’s bail set at $25,000 and Maldonado’s bail set at $5,000, according to arrest records.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
