Two Arrested For Racing On Soledad Canyon Road Reaching 100 MPH

Two people were arrested Friday night for allegedly racing on Soledad Canyon Road in Canyon Country, reaching an estimated 100 miles per hour, officials said.

The pair were charged with engaging in an illegal speed contest, according to Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“Soledad Canyon Road is no racetrack,” Miller wrote in a social media post for the station.

A deputy observed two vehicles, a truck and a sedan, engaged in racing each other on Soledad Canyon Road around 9 p.m. Friday, according to Miller.

“The drivers were so focused ‘in the moment’ that they sped right past the deputy,” Miller wrote.

The deputy caught up to them as they stopped at a red light. The light turned green and they took off again at high rates of speed, estimated to be 95-100 miles per hour, according to Sheriff’s officials.

“A traffic stop was conducted on both vehicles, near the Saugus Speedway,” Miller wrote. “The drivers who were racing each other said that they didn’t know each other, admitted to going about 90 m.p.h. and one even commented it was ‘a bad decision.’”

Both men, ages 21 and 23, were arrested for speed contest and transported to jail. Their vehicles were towed and impounded for 30 days.

  1. Wow, they finally caught a pair of speed racers. These contests go on nightly, we hear them in the vicinity of Soledad & Whites Cyn. I understand the “need for speed” but we need to find a safe alternative for this addiction.

  2. I love it… 30 day impound at $100 a day, fines etc… thank you LASD

  3. Wish there were more Sheriffs on patrol on Soledad between Solemint and Sand Cyn.I see cars routinely going over 90 mph both ways every evening and night! Enforce the law so more people don’t get killed! For some reason, they don’t seem to be interested in enforcing speed limits here! Bars serve alcohol til the customer runs outta money! They don’t care how drunk customers get! Cops would rather clean up the bloodbath after another fatal DUI accident! Been that way for years! Guess I shouldn’t expect Sheriffs to do much. They’d rather do nothing and then have 7 cars show up for pulling someone over for an out of date license plate! ?

  4. White privileged kids as usual. They’ll probably get a slap on the hand from the cops & a week of no allowance from Mommy & Daddy. Before you know it, they’re at it again. Being white definitely has their privileges for sure.

  5. Yes racism is alive and well in Santa Clarita.
    Racism Strong SCV.

  6. Liberals like Arn and people living in a bubble always on here cop bashing and making a no common sense comment. If the cops were proactive pulling cars over and issuing tickets then they are racist, harassing and have nothing better to do. The occupants would play victim while shoving a camera in the cops face arguing they did nothing wrong and their civil rights are being violated. The community would be appalled and outraged demanding a town hall meeting to defund the police. I don’t like getting a ticket but I made mistakes and just own up to it without excuses. If people would just not act entitled, have some common sense and follow the rules things would be so much better.
