Two individuals, including one with a no-bail warrant, were arrested Tuesday morning in Castaic after they were found to be in possession of multiple different collectible items, officials said.
On Tuesday, around 3 a.m., deputies were conducting patrol checks on businesses in Castaic when they saw a vehicle in a fast food restaurant parking lot on the 31700 block of The Old Road. The doors of the vehicle were open, and boxes were scattered around the ground, said Shirley Miller a spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“The deputies went over to check with the occupants in the vehicle to make sure everything was okay,” Miller said.
When deputies made contact with the two individuals they noticed the boxes on the ground contained hundreds of baseball cards that appeared to be collectibles, Miller said.
“Neither of the two occupants had identification when the deputies asked,” Miller said.
When deputies searched the vehicle, they found several more boxes of baseball cards, antiques and collectibles.
After further investigation, one of the occupants was discovered to have an active, no-bail warrant.
“Through their field investigation, deputies found that the items were possibly linked to burglaries that occurred in the San Fernando Valley,” Miller said. “Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s detectives are continuing the investigation with the assistance of LAPD.”
David Ambriz, 36, a transient, and Idalia Contreras, 30, of Sylmar were arrested on reasonable cause burglary charges, which is a felony. Contreras was additionally arrested on the no-bail warrant.
The two were transported to and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Jail, according to officials.
