Two Attempted Murder Suspects In Custody After Canyon Country Shooting

Two Santa Clarita residents were arrested Sunday and charged with attempted murder in connection with a Canyon Country shooting last week, officials said.

The shooting in Canyon Country took place on Jan. 16 at about 11:30 p.m. at the 7-Eleven on Soledad Canyon Road near Sierra Highway, said Lt. Ignacio Somoano with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s Detective Bureau.

“The victim engaged a male and female in an argument,” Somoano said. “The victim was then physically assaulted by the male and female.”

During the altercation, the victim was allegedly shot by one of the suspects in the upper torso, according to Sheriff’s officials.

The two suspects then reportedly fled the scene in a gray vehicle. The victim was taken to a hospital and treated for non-life threatening gunshot wounds, according to Somoano.

Deputies on the scene recovered multiple shell casings and a cell phone.

Detectives from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station COBRA Team responded and immediately followed up on investigative leads, officials said.

The two suspects and the vehicle involved were identified, according to Sheriff’s officials.

On Sunday morning, patrol officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Mission Station located the suspect’s vehicle at a motel on the 13100 block of San Fernando Road in Sylmar, according to Somoano.

LAPD contacted the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, who then sent resources to the motel to conduct surveillance.

At approximately 9 a.m. on Sunday, the Sheriff’s Department Special Enforcement Bureau served a search warrant and arrest warrants at the motel.

The two suspects, Guillermo Martinez, 20, of Newhall, and Laura Sabedra, 21, of Canyon Country, were both taken into custody without incident, according to Somoano.

Both suspects were both booked on a charge of attempted murder with bail set at $1,000,000.

  1. Glad they were caught!! Where in CC did MARTINEZ & SABREDA live??

  2. And no one shot this hombre? More time officers on the range. You save these people so they can and will kill more people, and it’s your fault.

  3. Not LEs fault, it’s the tender minded , excusing Liberals that are ruining decent traditional values!! Look at the recent Texas church murders—a decent citizen stopped the murderer with a horrible gun!! Got 1 day of coverage, but day after days, violence in synagogues/mosques got day after day coverage—not fair!! BIAS!!
    .

  4. Canyon Country used to be referred to as Klanyon Country, now people call it Compton Country

    • Most of the crime taking place in Canyon Country and Santa Clarita is coming from people that don’t live in Santa Clarita. The real issue is we have become a lawless society. Laws don’t matter anymore and the criminals know they can get away with a whole lot more nowadays and blame shift on their race, life situation etc..instead of taking personal responsibility.

  5. This is what happens when you have political hacks like current Sheriff Alex Villenuava. They take an Oath to uphold the Constitution but won’t let law abiding citizens use our 2nd Amendment rights to carry. I know as I’ve been jumped and beaten with a metal bar. Been rejected twice, even though i’ve got permits in 4 other states. If I could afford to move 15 minutes to Ventura County I could get my permit, which is valid in L.A. County. Why was i refused? Easy, I couldn’t identify my attackers and get a restraining order. Glad no one was killed but sucks law abiding citizens are having liberal politicians trying to take away our rights so they can have control over us. Yet they’re ok with protecting criminal ILLEGAL immigrants. Yeah my life’s in imminent danger every second we’ve got liberals ruining this state. Good thing they caught the two before someone did get killed.

  6. Jimmy speaks the truth/facts!! Snowflakes don’t like the harsh truth of modern days in the excusing Liberal society!!

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
