Around 4 p.m. Friday, a deputy with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station was conducting business near the Newhall Metrolink Station at the intersection of Railroad Avenue and Market Street when he observed two individuals, according to officials.

“One of them was drinking beer,” said Lt. Leo Bauer of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The deputy then made contact with the pair in order to issue a citation for public drinking, when a self-described “community activist” inserted himself into the situation, according to Bauer.

“In the process of that, an individual who was not being contacted confronted the deputy,” Bauer said. “He decided to almost physically confront the deputy.”

The deputy on scene called for backup, prompting officials to send at least nine different vehicles to the scene. Both the 21-year-old male who had been reportedly drinking and the 48-year-old “community activist” were detained, according to Bauer.

Ultimately, the pair were released, with the 21-year-old that the deputy initially made contact with being issued a misdemeanor citation, and will have to appear in court, according to Bauer.

  1. Your story is totally inaccurate in line with the sheriff to clear themselves why was there 9 cars and an helicopter for an open container right. But i was there so i guess my memory is just wrong smh

    • Probably because everyone is so sue-happy these days and the Sheriffs felt the need to cover their butts. Can’t blame them. People don’t want to follow the laws and then want to blame law enforcement for trying to enforce them. I ride the Metrolink and subway to work every day in DTLA and hear people crying all the time “Stop harassing me!” (I guess asking to see tickets nowadays qualifies as harassment.) Don’t want to be “harassed”?? Well, stop breaking the law then a**hole!

    • James! Please tell us what really happened!!!!…..
