On the evening of Wednesday, June 10 deputies received reports of an assault with a deadly weapon call near Jakes Way and Sandy Drive in Canyon Country, said Lt. Ignacio Somoano, with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Detective Bureau.

“The victim, a male adult, reported multiple male adult suspects approached him and threatened him with firearms,” Somoano said.

Detectives with the Career Offenders’ Robbery, Burglary and Assault (COBRA) unit began an investigation and were able to obtain multiple search warrants for the suspect, according to Sheriff’s officials.

COBRA detectives were ultimately able to secure three search warrants, two locations in Canyon Country and one in North Hollywood, Somoano said.

Detectives arrested Bryan Torres, 19, from Canyon Country, who was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, identified as a firearm, and Gregory Carter, 18, from North Hollywood, was arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm, Somoano said.

An additional suspect is still being sought in connection with the assault, Somoano said.

The two suspects arrested Wednesday were transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail with Torres’s bail set at $50,000 and Carter’s bail was set at $35,000, according to arrest records.

The investigation is ongoing as of Thursday morning, with additional details expected to be released.

  1. Why was I not surprised to see Jakes Way in this report?

  2. TORRES & CARTER a felon from N. Hollywood are off the streets for a few hours! Then they’ll be back out to cause more mayhem! Lock your doors & lock n load!! The vermin are moving in from LA, valley, Palmdale, Lanc., Bakersfield, etc.! Probably buddies with the LA rioters & looters!!

    • Uhhh no….unless they can pay their bail (unlikely). You realize our system allows anyone with enough money to walk out of jail until they’re actually found guilty, right?

    • Do you not understand how our system works? Anyone with enough money can walk out of jail if they have the money to pay their bail. These two very likely do not have the money to meet their bail. Apparently you didn’t even read the entire article before going off and just wholesale making things up. Criticize all you want, but you gotta understand the reality of anything you want to criticize first.

  3. Your COBRA longhand clarification has “Robbery and Burglary” transposed.

  4. Thank you for keeping our community safe! Great work!?????

Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
