An Uber driver was arrested for failing to return a rented vehicle on Friday, officials said.
On Oct.16, deputies patrolling in Valencia identified a 2012 Volvo as an embezzled vehicle using department resources, according to Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
The driver was traveling westbound on Valencia Boulevard, passing the intersection of Magic Mountain, where deputies conducted a traffic stop and detained the driver, Arriaga said.
During the investigation, deputies learned the vehicle had previously been rented by the suspect through a “Hyre” app from the registered owner and was supposed to be returned Sept. 27 to the registered owner, according to Arriaga.
When the suspect failed to return the vehicle, the victim reported it stolen on Oct. 13, according to Sheriff’s officials
The suspect, Dylan Lightell, 32, of Canyon Country, was arrested for misdemeanor embezzlement of the vehicle, according to Arriaga.
Lightell was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station before being released on a citation, according to arrest records.
