Around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, deputies responded to the Westfield Valencia Town Center mall for a robbery call, said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“A male adult suspect allegedly grabbed a ring from a salesperson in the fine jewelry section of a department store,” Miller said.

The suspect then reportedly took off running out of the store and across the street to another store located on the opposite side of Valencia Boulevard, where the suspect reportedly attempted to take merchandise without paying for it, according to Sheriff’s officials.

“The suspect was detained by the store’s loss prevention personnel, who immediately notified deputies,” Miller said.

However, the suspect managed to escape from employees, and ran back to the mall, where deputies quickly set up a containment, Miller said.

When confronted by deputies, the suspect ran in the opposite direction, according to officials.

“Little did he realize, he would be running straight into the arms of another pair of awaiting deputies,” Miller said.

Matthew Cammon, 23, of Canyon Country, was arrested and charged with felony robbery, Miller said.

Deputies discovered the Cammon was also on probation and had a warrant in the system.

Cammon was transported and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s jail, with no bail, according to arrest records.

  1. If this were Coral Gables, this guy would have been shot dead. Why can’t we shoot this convict dead?

    • I don’t know any criminals nor do I plan to so im onboard with that penalty Triburcio . We used to cut off just above the wrist when people steal and now its only a smack on the wrist .

  2. I despise criminals as much as anyone else does, but I think we should remember that stealing property should not be punishable by death. Life is more precious than stuff is, even a misguided life like this one.

  3. Life is more PRECIOUS when a creature lives like that??!! When the creature CHOOSES to BEHAVE that way. why would any normal human EXCUSE that chosen behaviors!!?? Thanks Liberals for Prop. 47 & 57 and AB 109!?

    • Because we are not judge, jury, and executioner. You are part of them problem. You know anything about his life, not excuse what he did, but because he stole he should be shot dead? Because that make sense right? So,I guess every crime in the book should be punishable by death. I am his younger sister by the way.
