Deputies arrested a Van Nuys man Friday on multiple charges including felony vandalism after allegedly shattering a police car window, according to officials.
On Friday around 5:25 p.m., deputies responded to a possible assault call on Newhall Avenue and Carl Court, said Shirley Miller, a spokesperson with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
When deputies made contact with an adult the deputy noticed that the suspect was exhibiting signs of someone under the influence as he smelled of alcohol and his speech was slurred, Miller said.
“The suspect was allegedly uncooperative with deputies and while being in the backseat of the patrol car, he struck the window, causing it to shatter,” Miller said.
Deputies arrested Wesley Chu, 33, of Van Nuys, on charges of felony vandalism, and misdemeanor charges of battery on a police officer and driving under the influence.
The vandalism charge was one of 18 throughout the weekend, according to Sheriff’s officials.
Starting on Friday lasting through Sunday evening, deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and officers with the CHP Newhall Office arrested nine individuals for DUI, seven people were charged for being in possession of a controlled substance and one person was charged with being drunk in public, according to arrest records.
The nine DUI arrests are half the amount made during the Memorial Day Weekend.
