Van Nuys Man Faces Multiple Felony Charges After Newhall Traffic Stop

Deputies arrested a Van Nuys man Tuesday on a slew of felonies including weapon charges after a routine traffic stop in Newhall, officials said.

On Tuesday, around 5 p.m. a Special Assignment Team deputy proactively patrolling Newhall conducted a traffic stop for a vehicle code violation at the intersection of Lyons Avenue and Kansas Street, said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

During the traffic stop, the deputy found that the driver was in possession of multiple illegal items that could be used for burglaries as well as weapons and narcotics, Miller said.

The suspect also was unable to give the deputy a valid reason for being in Newhall, according to Sheriff’s officials.

“The traffic stop ultimately yielded in the arrest of the driver, a 30-year-old man from Van Nuys, on two felony charges and three misdemeanor charges.

Jesus Sanchez Pacheco, 30, from Van Nuys was arrested and charged with being in possession of a concealed dirk/dagger, possession of metal brass knuckles, both felonies, possession of burglary tools, possession of methamphetamine and driving on a suspended/revoked license, which are misdemeanors.

The Special Assignment Team is one of several specialized teams housed at Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station that serves as an additional resource to patrol deputies and detectives to enhance the public safety needs of our community, according to Miller.

“It is our hopes that the deputy’s proactiveness prevented possible crimes in our area before they were committed,” Miller said.

Sanchez Pacheco was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail with zero bail given, according to arrest records.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
