Santa Clarita weekend arrests saw a slight decrease compared to last weekend’s total, with drug or alcohol-related charges making up half of the 20 bookings.
From Friday, May 20, to Sunday, May 22, deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall Area Office arrested 20 people, an increase from last weekend’s 28, according to booking logs.
Of the 20 arrests, 10 were for crimes related to drugs or alcohol, according to Santa Clarita law enforcement officials.
Seven of the 10 drug or alcohol-related crimes were driving-under-the-influence (DUI) charges, according to officials. None were reported as felonies.
The other three consisted of a charge for public drunkenness, one for being under the influence of a controlled substance and one for possession of drug paraphernalia.
There were 8 felony charges reported this weekend, including three for corporal injury on a spouse, one for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon or addict, one for battery on a peace officer, one for possession of a controlled substance while armed, one for attempted burglary and one for burglary.
Twelve of the weekend’s 20 total arrests were of individuals from addresses outside of the Santa Clarita Valley or transients, according to booking logs.
