Woman Arrested For Child Cruelty After Valencia DUI Crash

A woman was arrested Friday night after allegedly driving under the influence and crashing in Valencia with a small child in her vehicle, according to officials.

Around 8:15 p.m. Friday, first responders received reports of a traffic collision on McBean Parkway and Arroyo Park Drive in Valencia, said Imy McBride a dispatch supervisor with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

One of the vehicles involved in the crash reportedly struck a tree in the center divider, according to witnesses on the scene.

Three people were transported to a local hospital, including one child, according to officials.

“There was a child in the vehicle at the time of the collision,” said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. “Additionally, the passenger sustained serious injuries.”

Deputies later arrested Valencia resident Jessica Martin, who was the driver of the vehicle the child was in, on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to arrest records.

“(Deputies) smelled alcohol,” Miller said.

Martin was additionally charged with a felony count of cruelty to a child likely to produce great bodily injury and/or death, according to Miller.

“She was under the influence of alcohol, and got behind the wheel with a small child in the car,” Miller said.

Martin was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, where bail was set at $200,000.
