The suspects were walking in the middle of the street Friday afternoon on Soledad Canyon Road and Sierra Highway, according to Sheriff’s officials.

“The signs they were holding claimed they were seeking donations for a child’s heart transplant,” said Shirley Miller, spokesperson.

“A deputy responded to the location and made contact with a female,” Miller said. “Upon questioning her, it was determined that it was a scam, and the money being collected was not for a heart transplant.”

The deputy arrested the female on fraud charges, said Sheriff’s officials

“As soon as the other individuals soliciting donations saw the deputy arresting the female, they all took off,” Miller said.

The money that the female had collected totaled almost $200, according to the LASD.

“Please be advised that scammers will say almost anything to make a buck,” Miller said. “They know how to pull on the heartstrings of good, kind-hearted people.”

  1. There are so many legit organizations that need your help in the Santa Clarita Valley. Please go on line and look them up. They need your donations and are legit and will provide you receipts or a “Giving Statement” at the end of the year for you for tax purposes. Child Family Center, Active, The Food Pantry, Help The Children, Bridge To Home, Domestic Violence Center and the list goes on…
Not to mention, if these people really need help, they should be knocking on the front door of said organizations.
I will sometimes carry a large Costco size box of granola bars in my car and when I see a person holding a sign that says “Hungry” I ask if they would like to have a granola bar to tie them over. If they are hungry they accept it, if all they want is money, then they are not really that hungry.
These scammers ought to be ashamed of themselves.

  2. I believe this people were in the valley I will message you the pictures on Nordhoff street and sepulveda in North hills . I saw them there were 2 middle eastern women with 2 teen age daughter in the middle of intersection asking for $ and that milk jug cut out is where they would put their money in the signs look like the other ones but in the valley they had on the poster it was for leukemia
