Woman Identified As Driver In High-Speed Motorhome Chase

More details have been released regarding a high-speed motorhome chase that began near Towsley Canyon and ended in the San Fernando Valley, including the identity of the driver and the status of the two dogs seen with her in the motorhome.

Deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station first identified the vehicle as stolen on The Old Road, and began to pursue the stolen motorhome southbound when the driver failed to yield for a traffic stop.

Officers with the California Highway Patrol took over the chase at approximately 7:07 p.m., according to Officer Josh Greengard of the California Highway Patrol Newhall office.

“We got the call around 7 p.m. from the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s who were behind a stolen motorhome,” said Officer Brandt with the California Highway Patrol. “We picked it up somewhere on the westbound 118.”

The driver transitioned from the freeway to surface streets over the course of the chase, according to Greengard.

“During the course of the pursuit, the motorhome was involved in multiple collisions, resulting in minor to major damage to the other vehicles,” Greengard said in a statement.

The driver was also seen with two large dogs in the front area of the vehicle, one of which fell out of the vehicle during the pursuit.

“Both dogs in the suspect’s vehicle were recovered by animal control with minor injuries,” Greengard said.

Photos of the dogs believed to be involved in the chase.

The chase ended near Tampa Avenue, just north of Wells Street, when the driver of the motorhome, “intentionally left the roadway,” causing the motorhome to strike a car that was attempting to pull into a nearby driveway, according to Greengard.

“The suspect and the driver of the vehicle, which was struck by the motorhome at the termination point, were transported to Northridge Hospital Medical Center,” Greengard said. “The extent of the injuries to the suspect were minor. The extent of the injuries to the victim were major.”

The woman driving the motorhome attempted to flee on foot after the crash, but was almost immediately caught by CHP officers.

Julie Ann Rainbird, of Winnetka, was taken into custody, with her bail being set at $100,000 for the incident, according to officials.

Additionally, Rainbird had two warrants out for her at the time of her arrest: a $150,000 one from the Burbank Superior Courthouse, and a $160,000 out of San Fernando, according to Greengard.

  1. There’s WAY too many of these chases these days, and it’s seriously outta hand and SO dangerous! Just ridiculous! They need to make evading police like that a mandatory 20 years in prison or something! Got to do something about this! I know—-there’s already way too many people in the jails, but there has to be something done to make folks think twice before doing this! Can’t let the bad guys run rampant and get away with stuff! Seriously though, its time someone finally comes up with some electronic device that effectively shuts off a vehicle that police can use when need be! That would stop ‘em cold and prevent needless fatalities and injuries to innocent citizens and end this madness once and for all!

  2. too many insane chases, yes. but when the cops shoot these morons all the armchair internet experts whine like baby pics. so the police simply cannot win.
    Stop the morons, get indicted.
Don’t stop the morons, get blamed for complacency.

    • I know, right?!
It’s like guard dogs at a business! They spend like half their lives being trained to attack intruders/thieves, and such, and when the day comes and they finally put all that to use and bite the bad guy, what happens? They get put to SLEEP! WTH?! They should get a big steak instead, right?! ?
      EXACTLY!!

  3. Is Rainbird off the reservation? It’s a shame what happens to this native American.

  4. Only $100,000 bail? Seriously? Her warrants add up to more than that! No wonder there is so much of this crap going on! There is no punishment! SMDH!

  5. Hey CA…….U Voted to decriminalize laws, make drugs legal (yes, hard drugs not just marijuana), let criminals out of jail and not hold them accountable and take the power away from the police. AB109, Prop 47 & 57. This is what a Liberal Sanctuary City Third World Country looks like. Way to go Dems. Where’s the common sense people. Wake up I’m tired of hearing wow can’t believe this happened in my neighborhood. Liberalism has infected all of CA and there is no cure. If you don’t think so look around. Street urchin zombies are everywhere. No they are not just mentally ill victims either. Those of you that live behind that huge immoral wall that surrounds your house get out and take a drive around the neighborhood sometime. Zombie Apocalypse is here.

    • well said Rojo. The problem will only get worse as Dems continue to look the other way at the results of their policies. Sanctuary state? Why wouldn’t americans from other states flock here to get the free housing and medical care that the Dems are pushing? Not just illegals are attracted by the policies, desperate people who would get arrested elsewhere come here. Look at the idiots who elected Katie Hill in a formerly GOP stronghold. Yesterday she was touting impeachment for the president. I get the Dems hate him, but we have a crisis at the border and emergency monies for natural disasters being stonewalled by the likes of her in the House. People have been suffering for months waiting for aide and her she is talking about impeachment. Crazy. We spent over 25 million to investigate this president who was found innocent of conspiracy with Russia which was supposedly the purpose of the investigation. Now Katie Hill ignores that and somehow thinks that the president needs to be impeached. Madness…vote her out!

    • Rojo, you seem to not understand that many Californians did NOT vote for these insane laws. Opposing votes to this state’s political agenda don’t matter any more.

  6. I agree with both of you. I wonder how many people actually know how serious thousands of people invading our country is. Our crime rate has gone way up and it will get worse. Our country will never be the same. All the useless Democrats care about is getting rid of Trump. To think crazy Pelosi who is always drunk is Speaker of the House is really scary.
