The deadline to file individual and business taxes with the IRS was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the updated filing date is now less than two weeks away.
The IRS recently issued a statement reminding people that 2019 income tax liabilities as well as postponed April 15 and June 15 estimated tax payments are now due on July 15.
“All of the tax returns have been extended to July 15,” said certified personal accountant Matt Denny of Denny & Company, LLP. “That means any additional extensions for those tax returns which can be extended are also due that day, which would extend the due date to September or October depending on the type of return.”
Those that owe estimated payments for the first two quarters of 2020 are also due July 15 with no interest or penalties applied.
Taxpayers have been requested to utilize electronic payment options, as it is the “optimal way to make a tax payment,” according to IRS officials.
Additionally, the use of electronic payment options also allows for continued support of social distancing efforts to combat the spread of COVID-19.
A list of the full range of payment options is available here.
“For anyone with more questions, they can call us at (661) 286-8860,” Denny said.
A list of all forms due July 15 is available on the IRS website here.
