Editorial: Doctor’s Diary, COVID-19: “Hose me down..!”

Being a geriatric healthcare professional, when I come home, my wife forces me to “hose down.”

I come through the garage, close the door, shed my clothes, and immediately place ALL of them in the washer.  Then I nakedly maneuver into the bathroom (sometimes getting an “Ooh La La”) and shower the day off washing my hair and every nook and cranny.

Genetically, I was born with a mop of hair and for many of my jealous friends, instead of my hair thinning or receding with age, I continue to have a mop that rivals Conan O’Brien.

We don’t know where this virus settles, but we do know there are many asymptomatic carriers.  Coughing into our elbow was initially suggested, but isn’t it possible to be anywhere on our body or clothes?

I already know patients in hospitals and nursing homes rarely get showered.  Ask your friends or loved one how often they have been “hosed down” in these settings.

Finding a treatment at this time re-purposing drugs will be a miracle…like winning the lotto.  Let’s look at simple solutions that may at this point make a difference.

Hose down..!

You might even get an “Ooh La La!”
