Within a span of only five weeks, the special education preschool classroom at Castaic Middle School has been vandalized twice with fire extinguishers and food spread around the room--what district officials are calling "malicious mischief."

Castaic Middle School's 8th graders took on Deputies from the Santa Clarita's Sheriff's Station in a full court basketball game Friday.

A month after Castaic Elementary School's music classroom was vandalized, parents and students came together for a rummage sale on Saturday, raising $1,250 towards the school's music program to help cover some of the damage.

Castaic Middle School was hit with vandalism and what appears to be attempted arson between Saturday evening and Monday morning. It is the third case of vandalism to hit the Castaic Union School District since Dec. 23.

The Castaic Union School District bus yard was hit with an incident of vandalism and theft, just three weeks after the incident of vandalism at Castaic Elementary. District officials discovered on Jan. 13 that tires had been removed from five buses.

Castaic Elementary School and the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station are asking for the public's help in identifying the suspect(s) who vandalized the Castaic Elementary music classroom, causing at least $1,000 in damage.

The Castaic Union School District has several improvements planned for its schools during the coming months. It's solar panel project will continue through the winter break and planning for Bond Measure QS improvements during the summer is underway.

The Castaic Union School District Board of Trustees appointed a new president and clerk on Thursday at their annual organizational meeting. David Huffaker replaces Susan Christopher as president and Steve Teeman replaces Laura Pearson and clerk.
