During the Special Board Meeting on Wednesday night, the College of the Canyons Board of Trustees selected Jerry Danielsen to fill the recently-vacated Area 4 seat.
After the death of longtime trustee Michelle Jenkins in February, the COC Board of Trustees held a special meeting on Wednesday night to select and swear in a new trustee to finish out Jenkins’ unfinished term.
Danielsen, a private music teacher and the owner of Busy Signal Studios, moved to Santa Clarita in 1972 before pursuing higher education at the College of the Canyons and the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts).
“I consider Santa Clarita to be my community. I’m also profoundly committed to integrity in all my endeavors. The health and well-being of College of the Canyons is critical to the entire Santa Clarita Valley,” Danielsen said.
Danielsen previously ran for a COC Board of Trustees seat in 2020 and 2016. He lost to Michelle Jenkins by a narrow margin.
“I’m committed to honoring the voters in our community that stood for me (in 2020) by serving them and everyone else moving forward,” Danielsen said.
The College of the Canyons Faculty Association (COCFA), representing all full-time faculty at the local college, and California School Employees Association (CSEA) Local 725, representing classified staff at COC, both recommended Danielsen for the position.
“Mr. Danielsen is a longtime resident of the Santa Clarita Valley and a small business owner. As a music teacher, he has shared his passion for the arts with generations of students and desires to help the college expand its program with vibrant arts initiatives. His values align with our views and his platform is committed to transparency and fiscal responsibility,” said COCFA President Jason Burgdorfer.
