Golden Oak Adult School Students Work To Complete Google IT Certification

Ten students at Golden Oak Adult School are gearing up to complete the Google IT Certification course this semester and become the first group of students across the nation to take the course in an adult school setting.

Santa Clarita’s Golden Oak Adult School has become the first adult school in the nation offering a Google IT Certification course to its student body.

“Successfully completing this course gives a student a Google IT Support Specialist Certification, while also making the student eligible to take the comprehensive TIA Exam, a higher certification,” said Dave Caldwell, spokesperson for the William S. Hart Union High School District.

The 120-hour course is expected to teach the 10 currently enrolled students to understand core concepts of all IT support jobs ranging from systems administration to security, according to program officials.

Amid the partnership between Google and the Golden Oak Adult School, Google provides the course, while the school provides the instructor in an effort to help their students through the 12-week course with a projected workload of 12-hours per week.

The 120-hour course is designed to prepare students “for a career in systems administration, network security and customer support through this hands-on, practical course developed by industry professionals,” read Golden Oak Adult School’s 2021 course catalog.

Students who complete the course with 80 percent proficiency earn Google IT Support Certifications and are eligible to take the CompTIA A+ certification exams at a reduced rate, according to program officials.

With classes located on different school campuses across Santa Clarita, Golden Oak Adult School intends to meet the educational needs of Santa Clarita residents by empowering learners with academic, career and technical skills, according to Golden Oak’s mission statement.

The Google IT Certification is one of the many technical courses offered by Golden Oak Adult School and has remained the only school to offer the course.

“We are thrilled to be in partnership with Google for this certification class and will continue to offer this in upcoming semesters,” Caldwell said.
