Knowing the importance of movement and valuable lessons only learned on the field, SCVi charter school in Santa Clarita has sports teams for their students, elementary all the way through high school.
In a recent episode of Eye On The Valley at KHTS, host Matt Watson spoke with the SCVi athletic director, Nolan Draves, about the impact and importance of athletics for students.
Not even including the numerous obvious health benefits of sports, Draves also believes that there are vital skills and life lessons students can only learn through sports. The lessons you learn on the field, pitch, pool, track, or arena are lessons you wouldn’t learn outside of the athletics world according to Draves.
At SCVi, providing an education for learners is the main goal. Learner-driven curriculum combines what students need to learn with the things they are passionate about. Students aged four through 18 are all taught on the same campus, giving them a unique experience of consistency and opportunities.

At SCVi, Draves and the coaches run sports teams for all ages of students. Teams are available to students from elementary school through high school, where students can compete in CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) events and have approval from the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association).
A public charter school available for all students, SCVi is a comprehensive school, completely free for any and all students. iLEAD schools are some of LA County’s only in-person schools that are classroom-based programs and have a project based curriculum.
SCVi regularly competes against other schools and in large events. With students signing with major colleges every year, SCVi students can compete and make a mark in athletics, even eligible for athletic scholarships at their colleges.
