The Master’s University President Resigns After One Year In Position

The Board of Directors for The Master’s University and Seminary (TMUS) announced Monday that Dr. Sam Horn had submitted his letter of resignation after serving in the position of president for less than a year.

The TMUS board confirmed that they received Horn’s letter of resignation on Friday, Feb. 26.

“The board is grateful for the several important institutional milestones that were reached this past year,” reads a statement issued by the board Monday.

Horn was unanimously elected as TMUS president by the board in the beginning of February of 2020, and officially assumed the responsibilities of the position that summer.

During his brief tenure, Horn led TMUS through its re-opening process during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the school’s ultimately successful efforts to “reaffirm” their accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) after being placed on probation back in 2018.

“This past year has been one of the most challenging years in higher education and we are grateful for our entire leadership team during this unprecedented time,” the board’s statement reads.

Horn came to TMUS after serving in several executive academic positions at Northland International University from 1996 to 2011, as president at Central Baptist Theological Seminary, and the Executive Vice President for Enrollment and Ministerial Advancement at Bob Jones University, where he helped the both administrative and academic teams through the school’s “successful procurement of regional accreditation.”

An exact reason for Horn’s resignation was not immediately available as of Tuesday afternoon.

The TMUS board is now set to appoint an interim president “in the coming days” as they prepare to search for their next president.

“Pray for us as we seek what is best for the future of both TMU and TMS,” Monday’s statement reads.
