Hart District Continues Distance Learning For October, No School Reopening Due To Health Order

The William S. Hart Union School District announced Sunday that distance learning is set to continue through October, with no school reopening due to the county health order.

Hart District Superintendent Mike Kuhlman sent an email to parents and students on Sunday pushing back the potential reopening date to Nov. 13 for Santa Clarita high schools and junior highs.

The district originally planned to explore a “hybrid” model of distance and in-person learning by the five-week mark of the fall semester, then moving to Oct. 19, but the Los Angeles County “Safer at Home” Health Order prevented the reopening.

“Please note that the October 19 date is no longer an option,” Kuhlman said in the email. “We have been told that L.A. County will be required to qualify for four consecutive weeks before schools are allowed to reopen, we were originally told two.”

As of last Friday, Los Angeles County meets the threshold for the next tier of reopening for schools, if the COVID-19 criteria holds for at least four weeks, according to the superintendent.

“Reopening for schools In L.A. County will also require a revision of the County Health Order,” Kuhlman said. “The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health added that reopening would not be automatic once four consecutive qualifying weeks have been achieved.”

The county may weigh additional requirements, Kuhlman added.

“Therefore, the Hart District will continue in an exclusively online format until State and County guidelines enable us to consider a partial reopening,” he said. “Thank you for your patience and positivity in the face of so many unique challenges.”

  1. Schools and churches will remain closed until after election. Democrats will stop at nothing to make voting a circus.

Our schools and churches are often voting locations. My kids school is always a location, as is our church we attend. Both will be closed. Yes there is a connection to why this is happening! As unfathomable as it is.

  2. What surprise WM S Hart district cowering and bending over to Failed DemoRat leadership Governor Newscum!
If you ever want people to respect the Hart District again grow a pair and open up the schools.

  3. Politics is where you are going in this discussion. Paranoia about some “evil demons” that are out to get you.Is not health top priority?
