Hart District Releases Drive-Through Graduation Schedule

The William S. Hart Union School District has released a drive-through graduation schedule Wednesday after Los Angeles County loosened restrictions in the “Safer at Home” order.

The Hart School District has been “working feverishly” to create drive-thru graduations for each graduating Class of 2020, complete with stage, reading of the names and a picture taken by O’Connor Photography, said district officials in a statement.

“We think we’ve put together something special and we hope you can join us for this ‘historic’ event.” the Hart District said.

Each graduate car parade is set to happen at Central Park. Cars will enter at the stoplight off Bouquet Canyon Road and will be directed to the back of the park where the stage will be set up.

“We are requesting one car per family, please, and that everyone remains in the car at all times except for the graduate, who will be allowed to walk the stage,” Hart officials said.

Masks are required. Once your senior has crossed the stage and has had their picture taken, they will return to their car. Please follow the signs back to the stoplight to exit onto Bouquet Canyon Road, said the district.

More detailed information, such as what time your student should arrive, students will be assigned a time slot between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. based on alphabetical order, will follow from your individual school site in the coming days, and all questions should be directed to your school.

For now, it’s important to reserve the date for your school’s drive-thru graduation parade. All ceremonies, unless otherwise noted, will begin at 8 a.m.

The Hart District is going to follow all guidelines set forth by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, CDC and California Department of Education.

“We expect all participants to adhere to this guidance as well. Failure to do so may mean losing your chance to participate in this event,” the district said.

“In an ideal world, we would have had more time to share information about these events so that families could plan accordingly,” district officials said. “However, with the sudden reversal of restrictions on car parade graduations last Friday, we have had to move quickly to ensure that we don’t miss this opportunity to recognize our seniors. Thank you for your patience.”

On Friday, the county “Safer at Home” order was being amended so that “Car parades are now allowed so that graduations, birthdays and other special days and achievements can be safely celebrated,” according to Hart District.

Car parades can not include participants on a bicycle, a motorcycle, a convertible with the top open, or a vehicle with no doors such as a golf cart. If any of the windows on a vehicle is open, the occupants of the vehicle must wear a face covering, according to the county.

Supervisor Kathryn Barger discussed the move after she was approached by many graduates and their families to celebrate commencement.

“After enduring this year these students deserve an opportunity to celebrate everything that they have accomplished,” Barger said. “I am pleased to report that Los Angeles County has now issued guidance to enable vehicle parades and the chance for seniors across the region to be recognized for their hard work school districts are able to host their own Innovative commemorative ceremonies if they present a plan that allows for safe distancing.”

The plan should ensure the safety of graduates, families and school administrators, according to the supervisor.

“Please spread the word, and let’s make this a fun and celebratory event,” the Hart District said.
