Hart School District Board To Introduce Plans For Fall Reopening

The William S. Hart Union School District governing board is set to discuss the plan for returning to school in the fall at a virtual special meeting of the board Wednesday morning.

The meeting is expected to touch on all aspects of the school reopening, including instruction, extracurriculars and access to school resources, according to the Hart District.

“We had three separate paths for the different potential scenarios worked out in detail by people from the cabinets and teachers, parents and administrators,” said Hart District Governing Board President Linda Storli. “It’s going to be a long discussion meeting, hopefully out of it we’ll have a flexible path forward ready to adapt to any potential changes in the situation.”

Three specific goals for the plan to reopen were highlighted in the agenda meeting:

  1. Comply with L.A. County Health Order requirements as a means to keep students, staff, and families safe and to minimize the transmission of the COVID-19 virus.
  2. Provide options for parents (either online or blended models of instruction).
  3. Bring students back to campus as quickly as it is deemed safe to do so.

Additionally, the agenda addresses the limitations of the board’s authority in regards to certain aspects of the reopening plans, which are subject to restrictions imposed by local and state health orders.

As of Tuesday, the health order issued by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health does not allow for the “full reopening” of schools within the county.

“We’re going to discuss the whole school setting,” Storli said. “Sports, drama, choir or marching band are some of the reasons that kids are going to school. These things are the glue that hold a lot of kids together, so I think tomorrow, if you listen, we’re going to hit on everything about school in August.”

The public is welcome to submit written comments by email to ddunn@hartdistrict.org, but most do so no later than 4:00 p.m. Tuesday.

Those that choose to submit a comment are asked to use “Public Comment” in the title of the email.

Only comments regarding items on the meeting agenda are expected to be heard, the full agenda is available here.

The virtual meeting is scheduled for 8:00 a.m. Wednesday morning and is expected to be streamed publicly on YouTube, here.

  1. I suggest partial opening for school yeae 20/21.
2 days on campus and 2 days online and one day online for all students . The school hours to be divided morning and afternoon sesions to reduce the crowd in the classrooms.

  2. Was this meeting rescheduled? It’s 8:10 and there are 100’s of people waiting… but no meeting?

  3. I am a nurse, I can tell you 2 facts that dismiss the wearing of masks, especially for elementary school kids. 1. When you wear a mask you are limiting the flow of oxygen to your brain which you need everytime you take a breath.
    2. When wearing a mask you are breathing in your own carbon dioxide which can make you very sick, and may make a child pass out.
    3. Children tend to play with masks because they don’t like the feeling of something on their faces. So when thinking of opening the schools pls take this into consideration.

  4. If your child is in an SDC class & has a designated 1:1 aide per their IEP, how will that work with the social distancing protocol?
