At their regular meeting on Wednesday, the William S. Hart Union High School District board outlined an updated COVID-19 guideline for the spring semester.
During the meeting, Superintendent Mike Kuhlman explained the revised plan for COVID-19 safety, including masking, social distancing and isolation/quarantining. These guidelines are in effect for campuses in the Hart District as of Wednesday.
For masking, campus staff are required to upgrade to surgical, N95, or KN95 masks as opposed to cloth masks or other materials. It is recommended that students do this as well, but it is not required. Maks are required indoors at all times and required outdoors when social distancing is not possible.
With the increased spread of the Omicron variant in Los Angeles County, many schools and businesses are navigating how to approach possible contraction and quarantining.

“We have to acknowledge the fact that all across our community we have seen increasing numbers of staff members testing positive and cannot come into work,” said Kuhlman. “We worked hard over winter break to put together a plan for this situation.”
As of Wednesday, 79 teachers in the Hart District are reported as absent, with 79 substitute teachers filling in.
For the Hart District, if a student tests positive, they are required to quarantine for up to 10 days, though this can be modified if the students tests negative before those 10 days are up. Proof of a negative test would be required.
If a student was in close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19, a “modified quarantine” would be imposed in which if the student is vaccinated they can remain in school while watching for symptoms for 10 days. They would upgrade to one of the recommended masks and it is recommended that they be tested within 3 to 5 days.
If the student is unvaccinated, they should also remain in school and testing is required within 3 to 5 days. Symptoms should also be monitored for 10 days and upgraded to a non-cloth mask.
According to Wednesday’s meeting, parents can obtain one free testing kit per student from school sites. Additionally, every home in the U.S. is eligible to order 4 free at-home COVID-19 tests that ship within 7-12 days.
According to Kuhlman, the schools do have an independent study plan ready in the event that schools are shut down, though he stated he views this scenario to be unlikely.
“It is my personal opinion that we are not going to shut down schools,” said Kuhlman. “We recognize that online school is not efficient. We must have these backup plans.”

Critical Race Theory is a uniquely American invention. Brewed up at Harvard Law School in the ‘70s, now part of the academic and media mainstream, it is also uniquely un-American because it rejects the core tenets of the American, classically liberal, Judeo-Christian value system. It turns the bedrock American idea upside down.
Critical Race Theory says that the progress we have made in America is a mirage: racism never died—never even faded a little bit. It just hid itself better. CRT, therefore, is not a continuation of the Civil Rights Movement. It is, in fact, a repudiation of it. To Critical Race theorists, Martin Luther King was both wrong and naïve. White Americans can never judge blacks by the content of their character. They can only judge them, always unfavorably—consciously or unconsciously, by the color of their skin.
This is what they are teaching kids in schools now. CRT is not about teaching the truth of our history, warts and all. Who’s really obsessed with race? The left or the right? And whose policies really hurt blacks?
