After a year filled with unprecedented events and circumstances, the Saugus High School class of 2020 was celebrated in a drive-thru graduation ceremony at Central Park Friday morning.
Undoubtedly, every student at Saugus High School displayed tremendous perseverance as they endured the Saugus school shooting as well as the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the wake of these tumultuous times, Saugus seniors were integral to the school finding its path forward.
“Saugus High School’s Class of 2020 helped make the sun rise again at Saugus High School,” said Saugus High School Principal Vince Ferry.
One Saugus senior took it upon himself to rally his family to create more than 600 ribbons to hand out to seniors to wear on their gown in honor of Dominic Blackwell and Gracie Muehlberger, who were killed in the Saugus shooting.
585 seniors graduate from Saugus as members of the class of 2020, 181 with honors.
“The Class of 2020 demonstrated courage, sacrifice, perseverance, and complete selflessness that made us strong- SaugusStrong,” Ferry said. “We have never graduated a class more prepared to take on future challenges and more determined to make a difference in this world.”
