Other William S. Hart Union High School District students will soon be able to visit and use the Makerspace area at Saugus, according to the district’s public relations officer Dave Caldwell.

“Other district students will be able to come and visit the space, but part of our goal is to also bring people in the community to come visit and participate in the new Makerspace at Saugus,” said Caldwell.

Arroyo Seco Junior High and Saugus High School are currently the only district campuses to offer the Makerspace areas, which could then transition students to continue their Makerspace education at either of the Makerspace locations at both College of the Canyons campuses.

The Makerspace area at Saugus includes more than 3,000 square feet of space and will include many different kinds of tools and equipment to design, prototype and manufacture in a variety of different materials, such as plastics, metals and advanced composites.

Students who then master the Computer Aided Design, or CAD, software can then go on to use an assortment of 3D printers, laser cutting and conventional fabrication equipment.

“This new Makerspace at Saugus gives students an opportunity,” said Caldwell. “They have an opportunity to work on their ideas and to also bring them into fruition.”

The grand opening of the Makerspace location will be held on Friday, Dec. 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Saugus High School, located at 21900 Centurion Way, Saugus.
