UPDATE: ‘Suspicious’ Person Released Near Valencia High School, No Crime Committed

A “suspicious” person was detained Wednesday morning after reportedly wearing combat clothing near Valencia High School, officials said.

Around 9:20 a.m. Wednesday, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s deputies received reports of a suspicious person wearing combat clothing near Valencia High School, said Lt. Eric Lasko of the Sheriff’s Station.

“One individual has been detained,” Lasko said.

The perimeter of Valencia High School was secured at the time of the incident, according to Dave Caldwell, spokesperson for the William S. Hart Union High School District.

The person of interest told deputies that he had his face covered to protect it from the sun, according to Shirley Miller, a spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“The male that was detained was released,” Miller said.

The person of interest did not have any weapons, and no crime was committed, Miller said.

“Because of the times that we live in, we take any suspicious activity seriously, and that is why there was a large response of deputies,” Miller wrote in a Facebook post. “Your children are our children, and making sure their campuses are safe are a top priority.”

  1. School was put on lockdown. My kid text me and said as soon as she walked into he gate she was shuffled into a classroom and it was locked. Also, VHS sent out a voicemail confirming school was on lockdown. Interesting that Dave Caldwell has no idea what’s going on in the school district.

  2. What do you mean “Had his face covered” covered how?

  3. Both my kids told me the school was on lockdown.

And what a bunch of crap.. trying to cover his face.. his outfit alone was terrifying.

Is anyone looking into this persons background? Social media.

    • Agreed – you don’t dress like that on a hot day! He needs to be investigated further – Period ! Definitely at the VERY least checking his social media etc !

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
