Whooping Cough At Saugus High School Reported By Public Health Officials

A case of whooping cough at Saugus High School was reported Tuesday, prompting a warning from Public Health officials.

On Tuesday afternoon, Saugus High administrators sent an email to parents notifying them of a student who has been diagnosed with whooping cough.

“The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has notified Saugus High School that a student was diagnosed with Pertussis, whooping cough,” the email reads. We would like to give you important information about Pertussis and the actions that can be taken to prevent the spread of the disease.”

The email refers to information from Public Health outlining prevention and other information about whooping cough.

Pertussis, a respiratory illness commonly known as whooping cough, is a very contagious disease caused by a type of bacteria called Bordetella pertussis, according to the Department of Public Health.

Only found in humans, people with pertussis usually spread the disease to another person by coughing or sneezing, or when spending a lot of time near another person who shares breathing space, according to health officials.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends Pertussis vaccines for people of all ages. Babies and children are advised to get five doses of DTaP for maximum protection.

Infected people are most contagious up to about two weeks after the cough begins. Antibiotics may shorten the amount of time someone is contagious, according to officials.

If parents have any questions regarding the case of whooping cough at Saugus High School, they are encouraged to contact Assistant Principal Mrs. Hamburger.

  1. There is also a current case at Northpark Montessori.

  2. It will only get worse as long as people refuse to vaccinate their children. What happened to the days when unvaccinated children were not allowed in schools?

  3. SB277 was passed in 2015 and you have to be vaccinated to attend school. Out of 2500 pertussis cases 88% were vaccinated. You can check California Department of public health website. More than half the adults who caught measles this year were vaccinated.

    • In a population of 100,000, if 95% (95,000 people) are vaccinated and 5% (5,000) are not, and 0.1% (100) of the populationsgets the disease— if 88% (88) of those are vaccinated and 12% (12) are not, that means that 0.09% of vaccinated people got it, while 0.25% of those not vaccinated did- a nearly 3x rate of infection among unvaccinated vs vaccinated.

The measles rate of vaccination (and of long-term effectiveness) is higher than for pertussis, closer to 97% in the general population. If your number is correct (50%), then with 100 people ill, 50 vaccinated, you’ve got 0.05% of those with a history of vaccination, vs 1.66% of those without, a MUCH higher rate of infection for unvaccinated people vs those who have been vaccinated.

So I’m not really sure what point you’re trying to get across there.

Also, there are still plenty of high school students attending school on “grandfathered” personal belief exemptions from before 2016.

      • I gave you numbers. 2500 pertussis cases in CA and 88% of these 2500 people were vaccinated.

      • 2019 Study-Conclusion….”all children who were primed by DTaP vaccines will be more susceptible to pertussis throughout their lifetimes, and there is no easy way to decrease this increased lifetime susceptibility.”

  4. The school should clarify if it a vaxxed or unvaxxed kid. A scientist in SD found dtap tonbe a failure. The kids w the shots are getting whooping cough. We just got notified of a vaxxed student diagnosed. Silly to think a shot is full proof immunity and sillier to believe its not an actual vaccine strain infection! USN ship had 72 cases of mumps. All military are highly vaccinated and no exempts!!!

  5. Vaccines DO NOT WORK as they claim to. They are held on a high pedestal but in reality they don’t work much of the time. Diseases are mainly held in check by the enhanced sanitation we have today (water treatment plants that remove disease from our water, storm drains now drain into lakes/rivers/streams/ocean and are no longer connected to sewer pipes like they were just a few decades ago, health department standards enforced in all restaurants, hand soap/hand sanitizer/grocery cart sanitizer/wall sanitizers all help keep diseases in check.
The majority of vaccines that were introduced made claims to squash diseases however these diseases were already on the decline to to better sanitation and hygiene in our society (SOURCE: CDC, look for history of diseases graph and see when vaccines were introduced vs. the decline in diseases from better sanitation.

  6. Ate we sure it’s an unvaccinated kid? The laws in CA make it very difficult for an unvaccinated child to attend school period. Within a few years NO unvaccinated children will be allowed, so who will be blamed them?
There was an outbreak at Harvard Westlake this past spring. There were 30 some cases of Pertussis. Get this, all of the kids were vaccinated!
And the 17 at the school that weren’t vaccinated for it, DIDN’T get it. What!!! How is that possible?
Maybe, just maybe the vaccine doesn’t work.
And recently vaccinated kids are spreading it.
So….your kid gets the shot, gets all the toxic aluminum and a whole host of other dangerous chemicals and bacteria and bam, still gets the illness.
That sounds logical, let’s mandate that.
Do your own research people. Stop trusting pharma, the most corrupt industry on the planet.
