Memorial Day in the Santa Clarita Valley is set to be marked by an in-person ceremony at Eternal Valley Memorial Park this month.
The Memorial Day celebration at Eternal Valley Memorial Park aims to bring the community together to celebrate, honor and remember America’s heroes who gave their lives in the line of duty, according to event organizers.
“It’s an important event for our city to take a pause and remember what it really stands for,” said David Jackson, Army veteran and vice president of the Santa Clarita Memorial Day committee. “Servicemembers, men and women who have served our country who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.”
Jackson noted that it was very exciting to be able to celebrate Memorial Day in person again after last year’s celebration being cancelled by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“For a lot of veterans this is a healing opportunity,’ Jackson said.
T-6 planes of the Condor Squadron are set to perform a flyover to mark the commencement of the Annual Tribute to veterans, organized by the committee and Eternal Valley Memorial Park.
The Memorial Day Committee is composed of local residents dedicated to honoring the memory of service members, including Jackson as well as Bob Kellar as president, Jerry Rhodes as secretary, Bob Slocum as treasurer, Max Morgan as public affairs officer and Richard Nunally from Eternal Valley, alongside members Bob Good, Fred Chruchalla and Pam Hogan
Following the ceremony, the audience is to be invited to the Veterans Memorial Wall for the reading of the more than 900 names inscribed on the wall.
The annual Memorial Day celebration is scheduled to be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 31 at Eternal Valley Memorial Park & Mortuary in Newhall.
Attendees must RSVP via Eventbrite to be able to attend the event due to coronavirus event restrictions. To reserve tickets, click here.
