“Designing a Sustainable Landscape” is set to take place Thursday, Feb. 6 at 6:30 p.m., with “Waterwise Vegetable Gardening” scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 8 at 9 a.m., officials said Monday.
Both classes are free to the community, with all gardening classes in Santa Clarita held at the Santa Clarita Valley Water Agency at 27234 Bouquet Canyon Road.
“A useful landscape is one that meets your needs,” SCV Water officials said in a statement. “Whether you’re looking for something sustainable or edible, SCV Water has free February gardening classes to suit your taste.”
The first class on landscape design was created for residents with either a blank slate or a landscape in need of a makeover, and is expected to teach attendees how to preserve natural resources, be water-wise and still have a landscape that meets their needs, officials said.

Tim Wheeler is set to teach “Designing a Sustainable Landscape,” bringing more than 25 years of experience in the green industry, with a special focus on landscape management, landscape education and water conservation.
Wheeler has earned a variety of certifications and licenses throughout his career, including certified arborist, water use efficiency practitioner and certified landscape water auditor, according to officials with the Santa Clarita water agency.
The second class on vegetable gardening is designed for residents with an interest in learning how to integrate edible plants, fruits and vegetables into a water-wise landscape without sacrificing curb appeal.
“Waterwise Vegetable Gardening” is scheduled to be taught by Steve Williams, a professor of horticulture at Mt. San Antonio College with over 10 years of experience as a botanical garden staff member and plant propagator/nursery manager.
In addition, Williams has 10 years of experience teaching home gardening classes, and has been affiliated with UCCE Master Gardeners since 1996, according to officials.
