What: The community is invited to make care packages for hometown troops overseas at this annual free event for all ages. There will be card making and craft tables to make the boxes fun. Bring a donation, if you can. Items needed include individually packaged snacks, St. Patrick’s Day treats, jerky, Slim Jims, granola bars, trail mix, crackers, Top Ramen, oatmeal, hot cocoa, drink packs, canned fruits and meals, tuna kits, thick cotton crew socks in black or white, razors and body wash.

Knights of Columbus St. Patrick’s Day 5K

What: The race is an “out and back” course that begins at Mentryville Park and takes you in front of Charles Mentry’s grand 13-room mansion, a one-room schoolhouse and a period barn. The course is mostly on newly paved asphalt and the elevation climb is about 330 feet. Due to this elevation gain, the course is considered moderate to difficult. Awards and raffle prizes will follow shortly after the race.

What: The Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society will commemorate the 92nd anniversary of the second-worst disaster in California history with its annual St. Francis Dam Disaster Lecture and Bus Tour to the dam site in San Francisquito Canyon. Participants will have the opportunity to be among the first to visit the newly designated St. Francis Dam Disaster National Memorial and National Monument.

What: This free event gives students in the Santa Clarita Valley an opportunity to showcase their talent by performing or displaying their art for the community. Each school district will highlight their visual and performing artists, local dance studios will lead participatory movement and dance classes, student artists will display their street painting masterpieces and local art studios will give interactive art demonstrations.  Caricature artists will also be available to draw a cartoon version of those in attendance.
