Fire Chief Daryl Osby is asking the Board of Supervisors to let him go out and spend $5 million on new fire trucks.
Ladder trucks and water pumpers are usually good for about 15 years of front-line service, and it’s time for some replacements.
Osby is looking to buy two of the big quint-type ladder/fire suppression trucks at a cost of $1 million each, and seven new water pumpers for $440,000 each.
Osby made a similar purchase last year from KME Fire Apparatus of Nesquehoning, Penn., and he says KME has agreed not to raise prices this year.
The purchase requires supervisor approval, which is expected to come Tuesday.
