Nola Aronson from Advanced Audiology noted that she not only gets to change people’s lives by providing hearing loss solutions, but she also constantly surprises her patients with how much more hearing aids are now capable of in such a small, virtually undetectable size.
“It just makes me so happy when somebody lights up and says, ‘Wow, I didn’t know they were so small,’” Aronson said. “‘Now I can play with this app on my phone and I can control my hearing aids and I can watch TV through my hearing aids and I have my own personal headset and I can do so much with these. This is really cool.’”

Though many people may still assume that hearing aids are oversized and obvious, Aronson pointed out that this is not the case thanks to new technology.
“People go, ‘I don’t want a hearing aid because it’s big and ugly,’” she said. “Well they’re so surprised when they see them, and now you have your own personal bluetooth headset.”
An 11-year-old girl recently came to Advanced Audiology for hearing aids, and she also assumed they would be obvious to her peers.
“She has black hair and she likes to tie it back, and I showed her how, look at this black hearing aid and it blends in with your hair and nobody can see anything,” Aronson said. “She was so happy about that… And when I told her how she was going to have her own bluetooth headset, she was thrilled.”
New technology in hearing aids not only allows the person to connect wirelessly to their phones for things like taking calls and listening to music, but they can also track steps, measure brain activity, translate languages and even act as an emergency alert system in the case of a fall, according to Aronson.
“It’s just so many things that it does now,” she said. “It’s not just a hearing aid.”
