Whether that means contacting The Way Out Recovery SCV or reaching out to a friend, neighbor, pastor, teacher or other person in their life, Program Director Bob Sharits stressed the importance of making that first step toward recovery.

“You don’t have to suffer alone anymore, and you don’t have to sit there wondering, ‘What am I going to do?’” Sharits said. “Asking for help is the first step.”

While it may sound simple, Sharits noted that choosing to surrender and saying, “I can’t do this anymore,” can be the most difficult part of the journey to recovery.

“I don’t know what it is about us, but we think we need to do it all by ourselves,” Sharits explained. “But the minute that I surrendered and was willing to ask for help (for my addiction), the help was already sitting there in my life waiting.”

Although drugs are stronger, more available and more deadly than ever before, treatment is also more accessible than it ever has been in the past, if only the person in need is willing to seek it, according to Sharits.

“If you want to get clean and sober, you can. If you want help, you can get it. If you want to change, for you or your loved one, it is absolutely available,” Sharits said.

Regardless of whether or not The Way Out Recovery SCV is right for a particular individual, Sharits welcomed and encouraged anyone struggling with addiction to reach out so they can get that person the help that they need.

“If our treatment center is not right for you, we will place you in one that is,” he said. “Whether you end up with us or somebody else, we are going to sit down and take the time to make sure you end up somewhere. All you’ve got to do is ask for help.”
