An outpatient rehab in Santa Clarita is helping those who struggle with addiction to find ongoing care options at every stage of recovery.

As part of The Way Out Recovery SCV’s services to help those struggling with addiction move into recovery, Program Director and Community Outreach Specialist Bob Sharits explained that each client has access to “confidential as-needed individual sessions” to assess the best plan of action.

These counseling sessions allow clients to speak with recovery professionals about “treatment planning, referral to other agencies, discharge and ongoing care planning, conjoint family sessions and crisis intervention,” officials from the outpatient rehab in Santa Clarita said.

“We believe in a supportive, non-punitive approach to treatment with the goal being the achievement of complete abstinence from mood and mind-altering substances,” officials continued.

Sharits described a “non-punitive approach,” as one which allows each person to “show up how (they) show up.”

“We’re going to meet you where you’re at,” Sharits explained.

As clients move into different phases of recovery, their support needs may change. Moreover, according to officials, each person’s needs will vary somewhat from those of their peers. For these reasons, The Way Out Recovery SCV offers a variety of “mixed modalities” for treatment available to their clients.

“When I first started working in treatment it was like, ‘This is how I got clean, and this is the way to do it.’ If you want to do it, this is the way to do it,” Sharits said. Nowadays, he explained, “you can find the formula (for recovery) in different avenues.”

Should the services offered by The Way Out Recovery SCV not match the needs of an individual’s unique situation, they have connections with other recovery professionals and can work with the client to find alternative treatments elsewhere.

“I’ve seen so many people that have never touched a 12 step meeting … but have dedicated themselves to those same four principles,” Sharits explained. “They go (to people in their community) and they get a mentor. They get somebody who’s been through it to help them through it.”

According to officials with the outpatient rehab in Santa Clarita, the first step towards recovery is reaching out for help.

“So if you’re sitting there thinking, ‘that’s not the place for me,’ or ‘I can’t afford it,’ or ‘I don’t have this,’ or whatever, make the call anyway and let us help you determine where to get the help that you need,” Sharits said. “We live in a world today where help is so available that all you have to do is make those phone calls. And that’s what we’re here for, is to help you do that stuff.”
