Reduce Stress, Increase Sex Drive Naturally, Without Drugs

If you want sexy back in your relationship, you may have to change more than your prescription.

Here’s a “How NOT-to Guide” for the stressed-out, sexless marriage

By Dr. Thomas Polucki

Many couples work so hard and get so stressed out, they come home exhausted, physically and/or mentally, and the idea of lovemaking, while romantic, seems the last thing on their minds. Stress is one of the primary causes of a sexless marriage, and losing one’s sex drive is not healthy for any relationship,

Blame the lack of libido on work and lifestyle. Many of us are working a lot harder for a lot less than we were 10 years ago. Some of us have been downsized, disenfranchised or just plan fired, and stressed out about just surviving.

Few of us are in better financial, mental, emotional and physical shape. Even for those of us who have done better, it’s often taken much more effort and stress to achieve that success.

We have all had our relationships put to the test over the past several years, by relationship troubles, financial problems, health issues – the challenges are many. Some of us are stronger and are making it, some of us are stressed out and still trying to figure out why and what to do about it.

So if you and your longtime spouse or partner want to rekindle the flame you know was once there, that made you a romantic, passionate couple, keep reading. You may find it helpful.

Where did the chemistry go?

While short-term danger is an aphrodisiac for most people, long-term, low-level stress is a libido-killer for most couples.

When a man or woman sees themselves as less of a provider, the stress hormone cortisol overpowers the sex hormones testosterone and estrogen.

Testosterone and its very close partner estrogen are the key players in libido, but cortisol is stronger.

Without a biology lesson, step into my common sense corner for a moment.

When we’re in a life or death struggle, fight or flight chemicals like adrenaline flood our bodies. Survival is our priority, not procreation.

And while it may have been a while since any of us had to run or fight for our lives, we are still running the same
nerve and chemical stress programs as our ancestors.

The difference is that they did run or fight, which served as a natural nerve and chemical remedy for stress. But in our civilized society, we have to be outwardly calm and pleasant no matter what, so we internalize the stress and it feels like we are dying inside. And we are.

So if you haven’t already figured it out, you can use the fight-or-flight instinct to your advantage to actually reduce stress. Naturally, without drugs.

All it takes a small amount of strenuous exercise, to simulate fighting, and a small amount of less strenuous exercise, to simulate running away, every day, goes a long way towards restoring the calmer breed and feed part of our nerve and hormone control systems.

Unfortunately, due to more marketing than science, most of us who exercise regularly are overdoing it and creating more damage than repair.

Our free exercise class shows you how to burn of a whole day of stress in just 20 minutes, supercharging the rest of your day and night. You may not feel as sexy as you once did but exercise can help you look and feel better.

Our series of free 60-minute classes are normally part of established patients’ care programs, but we are making them available to non-patients for a limited time.

We get together Wednesday nights in our Newhall office at 7 p.m.

The nutrition class, while focusing on weight loss, the #1 physical stress in this country, shows you how to know the best foods to minimize stress damage while finding your best food-fuel mix to neutralize stress and fuel your passion.

The foam rolling class, teaches you how to reduce physical stress and tension in muscles that are worked too much and not enough by your daily stress and may interfere with feeling your best about and during sex.

The learn basic acupressure class is designed for a couple to spend some quality time together, melting each other’s stress and tension in about five minutes.

Ladies, this may be a way to get a little more foreplay out of the old dog…

We are currently limited to classes of eight people, so call 661-753-9340 now to save the next available seat.

And for those of you who are ready to get a handle on stress to get your sexy back, take the confidential survey and you may qualify for a free consultation.

How do you know if you are in this group?

  • How are you sleeping?
  • When was the last time you woke up feeling good?
  • Are you at your ideal weight?
  • Do you have daily aches and pains?
  • Do you have some form of indigestion?
  • Do you have good energy throughout the day?
  • Do you have allergies or catch whatever is going around?
  • Do you have headaches?
  • How is your sex life?

While there may be countless drug remedies for all of these warning signs, how many pills a day do you want to take?

Functional Medicine is different than conventional medicine in that we focus on restoring and supporting normal function instead of focusing on symptoms and disease.

Haven’t you ever noticed you tend to get more of what you focus on?

If you want to focus on putting passion back in your relationship, you may need MORE than just treating the symptoms with some testosterone roll-on that will probably get both you and your partner’s T-levels
