According to an eight year study recently published by University of Washington, exercise does not help people lose weight. During the time of the study people meeting the requirement of 75 minutes of vigorous activity or 150 minutes of moderate activity per week went up 17% but obesity rates continued to climb.
While I am a strong advocate of 20 minutes of exercise daily, this study points out that exercise alone is not going to help you lose weight. In fact most common exercise protocols will through you in to a metabolic overload that actually makes it harder to lose weight.
The key to ideal body weight is to give your unique physiology its appropriate fuel so you are satisfied with fewer calories. Just as you would not put diesel in a gas engine, only a third of the population will respond favorably to any of the latest “diets” and that favorable response will only be temporary for most.

We each have our own individual nutritional requirements but that is not an easy marketing campaign.
Another interesting twist is that our ideal fuel mix is by no means a fixed target. Our nutritional requirements are much more dynamic than ancient history, our genetic background or blood type.
To hit a moving target the first step is to understand that the target is moving. Stress factors dramatically effect alter our nutritional requirements. A fixed approach may seem to work temporarily but without knowing how to correct your course while that target is moving, lasting weight loss will stay out of reach.

These simple tools demystify all the bunk and pseudo-science involved in the multibillion dollar diet industry.
Exercise DOES work and is a critical key to your overall health; it is just not as powerful a tool in weight loss as appropriate food choices.
By the way, you should PAY ATTENTION in the same way to your exercise choices.
